  • Viral video captures the joyful reunion of Luna and her family.

In the U.K., a remarkable rescue mission unfolded as a dog named Luna was found after being trapped for two days in icy waters. The incredible moment was captured by a charity that uses drones to locate missing pets.

Luna’s adventure began during a walk when she got startled and ran off, dragging her 8-meter-long leash behind her. Despite her owners’ extensive search efforts, Luna remained elusive.

Phil James, the founder of the charity, shared that they “immediately provided help, advice and guidance” to bring Luna back.

“Luna had an 8-metre-long lead on, and she got spooked and pulled it out the owner’s hand,” James explained. Sadly, Luna ended up in a ditch, her leash snagged on debris, leaving her stranded in the cold for 48 hours.

The overnight temperatures hovered “just above zero” degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit), making her predicament even more perilous. With the aid of a drone, James pinpointed Luna’s location in a six-foot ditch, directing her owners to her.

Rebecca, a colleague of James, assisted in rescuing Luna and reuniting her with her family. Despite having “very sore paw pads,” Luna suffered no lasting damage.

The charity shared the footage of Luna’s reunion on their social media page, where it quickly gained traction, amassing over 692,000 views and 16,000 reactions. The caption read: “Happy tears definitely for this beautiful girl. Missing and trapped for 48 hours, on an 8-meter extendable lead in freezing waters and with infected feet, the team did another amazing job today.”

Luna received veterinary care and antibiotics for her paw infection and has since “made a full recovery,” according to James. Her owners have now equipped her with a tracker to prevent future escapades.

The viral video has not only highlighted Luna’s rescue but also the vital work of the charity. James remarked, “The reaction on social media has been amazing, and it’s had a hugely positive impact on our efforts.”

Comments flooded in, with one person expressing gratitude: “Thank goodness she has been found safe. Thank you to the drone team for all your work.” Another wrote, “So very pleased to see her found safe and getting the vet attention she needs.”

A heartening reunion, Luna’s story underscores the power of technology and community in bringing lost pets home.

Happy tears definitely for this beautiful girl. Missing and trapped for 48 hours on an 8 metre extendable lead in freezing waters and with infected feet the team did another amazing job today. Just look how happy she is to see her mum and dad. She was taken straight to the vets for antibiotics on all infected feet and is now home safe. They say actions speak louder than words. We couldn’t agree more ❤️. Please donate so Drone To Home can keep bringing these amazing reunions. www.dronetohome.org.uk ♬ original sound – Drone To Home
