  • The friends are now raising money for heart health after his inspiring recovery.

Shannon Jeffries sprang into action when she witnessed her friend Darren Oliver stutter and disappear from a video call, realizing he was in grave danger.

She immediately contacted their golf club to get his location and rushed to his car, where Darren was slumped over the steering wheel.

“I rang the ambulance straight away and the operator told me to drag him out of the car onto the ground to clear his airways.”

Though unable to move him completely, Shannon made sure his airways were open until help arrived. Paramedics resuscitated Darren, who faced multiple medical emergencies before undergoing surgery and beginning his recovery.

“It sounds daft now, but I pulled a golf ball out of my bag and put it in his hand and told him to hang on. He was squeezing it.”

After months of recovery, Darren lost more than 100 pounds and reunited with Shannon on the golf course. Together, they’ve raised over $2,000 for the British Heart Foundation.

“I’m so grateful to Shannon, as it’s terrible to think what might have been if she hadn’t got to me.”

“I’ve still got Shannon’s golf ball. It’s a Titleist, so she’s not having it back. I carry it in my bag as a reminder always.”
