Working in the zoo would definitely make a “bring your child to work day” quite unusual. But the interactions can be surprising and downright mesmerizing. That’s exactly what happened when zookeeper Kate brought her newborn baby to meet the gorillas in her charge.

Kate was ten weeks into her maternity leave, but she decided to visit her gorillas to get them acquainted with her newborn baby.

“When your zookeeper goes on maternity leave but visits with her new baby,” Kate wrote in the video’s text overlay.

“The sweetest boy meeting my sweet baby for the first time,” Kate captioned the video.

In the video, we can see a big male gorilla sitting with his back to the window. He shows a lack of interest at first, but he eventually turns around to see what all the fuss was about.

He’s like ‘aight, let me see it’ lol,” one viewer commented, while another wrote, “He looks like the grumpy dad-figure that didn’t want a puppy but is about to be besties with it.”

In a second video shared by Kate, a younger gorilla expressed more interest and immediately ran up to the glass as soon as she spotted the baby. It even looked like she blew Kate a goodbye kiss when she left!

Another young gorilla, whom Kate calls the “baby of the troop,” also feigned disinterest. It seemed like he was jealous of the attention the baby was getting from his zookeeper.

Gorillas have previously shown affection toward human children.

Back in 1996, Binti Jua of Chicago’s Brookfield zoo saved the life of a three-year-old boy who fell into her enclosure. She picked up the unconscious boy and placed him near the exit, so that paramedics can easily extract him.

More recently, this summer, a mother gorilla proudly held up her own baby to a woman who visited the zoo with her newborn baby.
