Quick Smiles:

  • A three-year-old went missing in Kentucky, sparking an urgent police search.
  • A friendly neighborhood dog guided officers to the lost child.
  • The dog is being hailed as a “blessing from God.”

When a little boy disappeared in Kentucky, the Louisville Police Department worked tirelessly to find him, searching on foot, by drone, and with a helicopter. Despite their best efforts, there was no sign of the child until a neighborhood dog unexpectedly joined the search.

Officer Josh Thompson described his cautious initial encounter with the barking dog, who soon captured his trust and led him toward a solution.

“I’m kind of being a little leery of the dog. He’s barking, chirping at me a little bit, and then continues to follow me back to the front porch again to knock on the house again.”

Trusting the dog, Thompson followed it to the backyard, where they discovered the missing toddler safe inside a parked car.

“Dad mode turns on, and I’m trying to get this kid to hit the unlock button,” Thompson explained. “He hit the door latch, and I just gave him the yank motion. He yanked, and I pulled that door open quickly. And he jumped from the car, bear hugged my neck, and wouldn’t let go.”

The police are still unsure where the helpful dog came from, but they called its appearance a true blessing. Someone beautifully captured the moment:

“And God said, let me send them without wings so no one suspects they are angels,”
