  • A fire broke out at W-Underdog’s animal shelter where Keith Walker’s best friend pit bull was.
  • Keith pulled out 6 dogs and 10 cats from the shelter away from the fire.
  • GoFundMe campaigns were set-up to help Walker and the W-Underdogs shelter.

A homeless man proves that he may be down and out materially, but his heart is full.

For the shelter animals that included 10 cats and 6 dogs of W-Underdogs, Keith Walker is a hero and a “guardian angel”.

When a fire broke out in the kitchen of W-Underdog’s animal shelter, Keith was just coming in to pick-up his pit bull Bravo. Gracie Hamlin, the shelter’s founder, allows Bravo to stay the night inside the shelter.

Seeing the fire, Keith was first nervous to enter the burning shelter but sprang into action by rescuing all the animals and making sure that everyone was safe from the fire.

Keith said, “God put me there to save those animals.”  He adds, “If you love a dog, you can love anyone in the world. My dog is my best friend, and I wouldn’t be here without him, so I knew I had to save all those other dogs.”

Hamlin said that the fire department contacted animal control “but Keith was already in the building pulling out the cats and dogs until they were all safe. I can’t thank him enough for saving my animals. I’m still in disbelief, because I’ve been around a fire and I know how fast they flare up. He is my hero.”

W-Underdogs was in the process of transferring its headquarters when the fire occurred.  Although the building was not razed to the ground, it was deemed uninhabitable.  Cause of the blaze was determined by the Fire Department as electrical.

In their Facebook post, W-Underdogs said they were able to move the animals into their new facility and that “they are all happy, warm, safe, and comfortable in their new temporary home.”

For his heroic deed, a GoFundMe page was set-up for Keith.  It has already surpassed its original goal and has reached more than $27,000. Walker’s access to the funds is still being worked on.
