Illinois Dad Proposes Moments After Baby Arrives

New dad Denzel Kimbrough from Illinois turned a big life event into a double celebration when he asked his longtime girlfriend, Challis Bell, to marry him just minutes after meeting their son.

“It was kind of a random idea, honestly,” Kimbrough shared. “We had talked about getting engaged before our son was born, and one day I thought, ‘What better place than the delivery room?’”

As nurses finished up her vitals, they dressed baby Ace in a onesie reading, “Mommy, will you marry Daddy?” Bell, still recovering from delivery, took a moment to read the message.

“What? What does that say?” she asked.

When Bell turned, Kimbrough was kneeling with a small box. Bell gasped and said, “Oh my God. Yes.”

“I was completely shocked. We knew we were going to get engaged, but that was a big surprise!” Bell said, calling the proposal “perfect.”

The moment brought an outpouring of emotion, with many congratulating the couple while some offered other perspectives. Comments ranged from, “Congratulations!!!! What a heartwarming family moment,” to reflections on keeping life milestones separate.

Kimbrough expressed, “Everybody has their own opinion. Some people might say, ‘Oh, I would’ve proposed before,’ or ‘I would’ve just waited until after.’ But I just felt like it was the perfect opportunity for us.”

“I wanted to make that day the best day of her life,” he said.

Bell added, “It was perfect. We can’t control other people’s opinions, but I’m definitely happy to see that we’ve gotten more congratulations, blessings, and positivity coming our way than negativity. Everybody’s different — we’re just focused on the love.”

This joyful milestone has brought the couple closer, and they’re looking forward to their next chapter together.
