Enoteca Maria, a restaurant in Staten Island, New York, has a unique concept: grandmothers from all over the world cook traditional meals for patrons three nights a week. Owner Joe Scaravella started the project to honor his Italian heritage and his mother, for whom the restaurant is named.

The grandmothers, who are not professional chefs, have years of experience cooking and have passed on their knowledge to their families.

With a rotating cast of nonnas, each night features a fixed, regular Italian menu and a variety of other cultural cuisines.

Customers are delighted with the food and the chance to meet the grandmothers who prepare it.
