Pit Bull Guides Stranger and Saves Two Lives

What seemed like an ordinary evening in a Pittsburgh park became a rescue story when Gary Thynes encountered a leash-dragging pit bull signaling for help.

The dog persistently encouraged Gary to follow him, leading the way with purpose and determination.

“Something put the idea in my head, VERY STRONGLY, that this dog wanted me to follow him,” Gary shared.

As Gary pursued the dog, a woman who stopped to help joined the effort, and together they followed the pit bull down a remote path behind some train tracks.

Their search ended at two tents, where Gary discovered an unresponsive man and immediately called 911.

Emergency responders soon located another unresponsive person nearby—both were quickly taken to the hospital for urgent care.

The woman who helped revealed herself to be a social worker and knew those in need personally. She offered comfort by promising to keep the dog safe until his owners recovered.

Gary, himself in recovery, felt a deep connection to the dog and recognized how vital its love is in difficult times. He insisted on caring for the pit bull, ensuring the pup stays safe and loved until his family can take him home.

Although the dog is a bit underweight and has an eye infection, Gary is committed to looking after

“the little hero”

who sparked a chain of kindness that night.

“This experience has been surreal,” Gary wrote.

“It only reaffirms to me that God is real and he speaks to you… if you choose to listen; and I’m so glad that I did.”
