A stirring tale unfolds as rescue dog Momo, now living in Los Angeles, a survivor of Samson’s Sanctuary Rescue, utilizes technology to contact her birth mom, Midori. This significant interaction teeters on the cusp of a genuine canine reunion.

This extraordinary exchange was captured and shared by Mitchy McGhan, who provided Momo with a new home after her rescue. Meanwhile, Midori remains in South Korea, trapped in her tragic past.

“Dogs are capable of identifying images of other dogs among pictures of animals and humans, using their visual sense alone,” a study published in the December 2013 edition of the Animal Cognition journal revealed.

This study reinforces the gravity of the touching interaction between Momo and Midori. It’s unclear whether Momo remembers her mother, but for Midori, the memories of being separated from her pups are still fresh.

These memories may be a painful reminder of a life she has since left behind. Midori was part of a massive rescue mission involving over 75 dogs, as shared by Mitchy McGhan.

“Midori was part of a rescue mission of over 75 dogs”, McGhan disclosed. “She and the other dogs were born into a situation where the owner didn’t spay or neuter any of them. Most of Midori’s life up to that point was spent on a chain. When she was finally rescued, she was pregnant.”

Midori was rescued from dire circumstances by a local shelter when her owner fell critically ill.

“On the day the shelter staff went to pick them up, they found Midori ‘quite literally keeping her head above water to stay alive’,” she remembered. “Had they not arrived that day, she might have perished.”

Midori was taken to a large shelter, where over 250 dogs resided. This became the birthplace for Momo and her siblings and the site of Midori’s heartbreak as she watched each of her puppies taken away to new homes.

Midori was unable to fly overseas due to her condition, leaving her to spend her remaining years within the shelter. But McGhan’s visit ignited a glimmer of hope.

Touched by Midori’s plight, McGhan and her mother decided to intervene. “We couldn’t leave her there. She was hiding in the corner and was so weary of touch. We decided to foster Mama Midori for the rest of our trip to give her a chance at freedom,” McGhan narrates.

Finally, with the assistance of Samson Sanctuary, Midori was spayed and treated for heartworms, making her eligible for her long-awaited journey to the U.S. “She will fly with me on July 28,” McGhan said proudly. “The first pup she will see is her daughter Momo.”

Midori will be fostered until a reliable and loving forever home is found. McGhan is determined to give Midori the best, stating, “she deserves the world.” McGhan is also planning to rescue Momo’s father, Moonshine, from the same South Korean shelter.

“Samson’s is actively working on finding a foster or forever family for Moonshine to bring him over for a complete family reunion,” she explained. The anticipation of their next meeting is palpable, promising an even more momentous and enduring reunion.
