Santa Train Delivers Joy and Gifts to Hurricane-Hit Community

The beloved Santa Train embarked on its 82nd annual journey, weaving through the Appalachian mountain towns with an extra special mission this year.

Before delighting its usual stops, the train made a heartfelt detour to uplift a community impacted by Hurricane Helene in the Eastern United States.

In Erwin, Tennessee, Santa Claus himself launched the festivities by distributing gift bags and chicken dinners.

Families were treated to the sight of a beautifully adorned 1902 Clinchfield steam locomotive, which led the 110-mile journey, casting a glow of festive lights along the way.

This cherished holiday tradition, one of the oldest in the nation, saw the Santa Train deliver over 15 tons of gifts.

These presents, ranging from toys to winter clothes, spread joy to families throughout Kentucky, Southwest Virginia, and Tennessee.

“Our team is honored to be part of a tradition that brings joy and supports families in a meaningful way during the holiday season,” expressed Joe Hinrichs, president of the train’s operating company.

Thousands of families gathered along the route, sharing in the joy and camaraderie the train brought to the region.

“Every year, we are inspired by the smiles and heartfelt stories shared along the route that remind us why this tradition is so special,” noted Bryan Tucker, a vice president at the operating company.

The success of the Santa Train is bolstered by longstanding partnerships with organizations like Appalachian Power, Food City, Soles4Souls, and the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce.

These collaborations ensure the magic of the Santa Train reaches as many families as possible, year after year.
