Quick Smiles:
- Tatiana Schlossberg written works sparked environmental awareness.
- Her family shared heartfelt tributes honoring her spirit.
- Her courage in the face of illness uplifted readers worldwide.
Tatiana Schlossberg, an accomplished author and environmental journalist, touched many lives through her writing and advocacy.
She passed away at the age of 35, surrounded by her loving family just weeks after sharing her journey with terminal cancer.
Her family’s message read, “Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts.”
In November, Tatiana bravely revealed her diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia, a rare and aggressive cancer, after celebrating the birth of her second child.
She underwent a stem cell transplant from her sister and achieved remission before the illness returned.
“During the latest clinical trial, my doctor told me that he could keep me alive for a year, maybe.”
She shared this in her heartfelt essay.
Tatiana, the daughter of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, was a Yale and Oxford graduate, an environmental reporter for The New York Times, and the author of “Inconspicuous Consumption.”
She appeared on TODAY in 2019 to discuss her book and her family’s legacy of writing and public service.
“I’m very proud of my family’s political legacy, but I’m also very proud to come from a family of writers because my grandfather was an amazing speechwriter, but also wrote books.”
Tatiana reflected.
“And my grandmother was an editor, and both of my parents are writers as well, and so I feel very proud to be serving in that way, and I’m very proud to be a member of the press.”
“Yes, there are things that all of us can do, but it’s not about sort of feeling individually guilty, it’s about feeling collectively responsible.”
She believed in the power of collective responsibility for the environment.
Her life and work continue to inspire positive change.
Tatiana is survived by her husband, George Moran, and their two children, who will carry forward her legacy of strength, wisdom, and hope.
May we all celebrate Tatiana’s commitment to the planet and her inspiring kindness, finding ways to brighten our own communities in her memory.
