Tiny ‘Werewolf’ Dog’s Smile Is Both Scary and Adorable

Meet little Darla. A dog that looks really cute but whenever she smiles, she transforms into a scary, wolf-like creature.

Darla is a happy dog… so, she smiles a lot, says her mom Ashley Lamping-Conard.

“She makes that face whenever she wants you to throw or give her her Lamb Chop toy,” Ashley told The Dodo. “She’s addicted to fetching them.”

Imagine taking her for a walk, or bringing her to a park. The little werewolf surely turns heads. Her appearance could scare those with a faint heart.

But Ashley said there’s no reason to be afraid of her.

“She’s pretty timid when she meets someone new,” Darla’s mom said. “She’s also only 5 pounds, so she’s not too intimidating.”

After Hurricane Harvey devastated Texas, several dogs were rescued from the streets. Darla was one of them. She wound up in an animal shelter.

Ashley’s aunt, a volunteer for a humane society, posted a photo of the unique dog on Facebook.

“My husband and I fell in love immediately … we’d never seen a dog like her,” Ashely said. “We reached out to my aunt to set up a time to go meet her, and she was just the sweetest little girl.”

Ashley said Darla’s terrifying looks do not match her personality. “Darla is super playful,” she said. “If there’s a toy around, she will make you play fetch with her for hours.”

Darla has an obsession — Lamb Chop toys. She’s been stealing one from her Chihuahua brother. When Ashley and her husband noticed just how much she loved the toy, they started gifting her Lamb Chop items. And now Darla has quite a collection.

Darla’s not always showing off her smile. When she goes to her parents for comfort, she looks rather sheepishly.

“She’s a huge snuggler,” Conard said. “If she’s not playing with her lambs, she’s trying to find the comfiest spot to cuddle up in — which is usually very close to my face.”

Owners sometimes go to great lengths to dress up their dogs for Halloween, Darla can always go as herself.
