In sunny Bradenton, Florida, a remarkable celebration unfolded as World War II veteran Jules Hagen marked his 104th birthday. Surrounded by loved ones, the day was filled with laughter, singing, and, of course, cupcakes.
Jules Hagen, who served as a U.S. Air Force command engineer during the war, has lived a life that spans significant historical events.
Reflecting on his upbringing in Indiana during the Great Depression, Hagen recalls his father’s stern advice:
“Keep your damn mouth shut and work,” he said, laughing.
This wisdom shaped his work ethic and approach to life’s challenges.
The Brookdale Palma Sola, where Hagen resides, shared the joy of his milestone with the world through social media.
“Today, we are beyond thrilled to celebrate with Jules a truly remarkable milestone of turning 104. From countless cherished memories to inspiring stories, Jules has not only witnessed history, but has been a part of it. Whether it’s sharing wisdom or simply enjoying the little things, Jules continues to inspire us every day,” the post read.
During his service in England, Hagen ensured B-17 bombers and their pilots were prepared for battle. His role was crucial in the fight against the Axis powers during the “deadliest and most destructive war in history,” according to the National World War II Museum.
After the war, Hagen transitioned to a career in law, becoming both a devoted husband and father. His advice to younger generations remains simple yet powerful:
“I think I’ve been brought up to think the way to live is to work. You got to work. You got to plan,” he said.
Jules Hagen’s life story is a testament to resilience, dedication, and the joy found in both grand adventures and everyday moments.
