Aside from giving out deadly punches and kicks in the ring, UFC Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier is into a whole new different kind of “fight,” the kind that melts the hearts of people around him.

It all began with, literally, “The Good Fight,” a nonprofit organization intended to help communities in need in Acadiana.

Dustin, along with his wife Jolie, started to put their personal stuff up for bids in “The Good Fight,” including keepsakes from dozens of UFC matches where Dustin fought.

The first auctioned kit was from the Poirier-Eddie Alvarez fight, raising proceeds enough to provide 3,000 meals for Second Harvest Food Bank.

In August 2019, a playground for children with special needs was put up, fulfilling a dying boy’s wish through the foundation.

Since 2018, “The Good Fight” has raised thousands of dollars changing the lives of many families, especially children, who have been grateful recipients of such blessings.

Being a dad himself to a four-year-old daughter, Dustin says this endeavor makes him “really proud” and happy.

“I can be the tough guy, travel all around the world, get in bloody fights,” Dustin said. “[But] I can come home, and I’m still dad. I can play barbies. It really balances me out.”

Attracting more donors, the foundation was able to draw in and sell more fight kits that have tremendously helped 100 homeless women and 500 school children. Now, “The Good Fight” provides shelter with even brand-new furniture for its residents.

Such good cause has far reached African tribes, when former UFC fighter Justin Wren pledged to help the long-suffering Pygmy tribes in Africa. They were provided with new water wells, solar power, and 43 acres of purchased land for the Uganda Batwa tribe.

Other UFC fighters were inspired and started to donate parts of their kits to the organization. In fact, an autographed Reebok Walkout jacket worn by UFC fighter Michael Chiesa is up for grabs via sweepstakes tickets priced at $10. 100% of the proceeds will go to the foundation.

Currently, “The Good Fight” first target this year is to fund transportation and tutors to six areas of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Acadiana. As of this writing, the foundation’s funding page has only reached about 10% of the $100,000 goal.

“I am a fighter. It’s what I do. Now I want to fight the good fight — for those who can’t,” said Dustin. “I have created a platform for fellow athletes and fans to join together, fight for underserved communities and answer the call of those in need.”
