Bird-watching has taken a delightful turn, thanks to Michelle Lefebvre, a passionate enthusiast from British Columbia, Canada. Known for her love of avian creatures, Michelle has found a way to bring her feathered friends closer than ever.
“I love birds so much,” she shared, a sentiment that has fueled her inventive approach to bird-watching.
Michelle, who balances her time between environmental communication and retail at a nature shop, finds solace in the presence of birds.
“When I need to unwind after a hard day’s work, I like to spend it with the birds,” she explained. “Being outside or in nature helps me unwind.”
Her innovative “face feeder,” inspired by Instagram user @birdladydrin, has taken TikTok by storm.
In a video posted on her account @wildlifetastic, Michelle sits patiently with large sunglasses, a paper plate filled with birdseed attached, waiting for her avian visitors.
The clip, which has garnered 2.2 million likes and 17.6 million views, showcases Michelle as birds perch just inches from her face, seemingly oblivious to their human host.
“It didn’t take long for a bird to show,” she recounted, describing her close encounter with an American goldfinch and two black-capped chickadees.
TikTok users were charmed, with one commenting on the “excellent use of free will” and another dubbing her the “birdwatching final boss.”
“The way they keep looking around for predators unaware you are staring into their soul,” remarked a viewer.
Michelle, who frequently shares her nature discoveries, was surprised by the video’s viral success.
“But since it has, I hope that I can inspire people to notice the birds and nature around us,” she said.
Bird-watching continues to capture the imagination of many, with millions participating in the hobby annually.
“We are all so caught up in the work life that we need to remember to take a moment and appreciate nature and all it’s got to offer,” Michelle advised.
With her creativity and passion, Michelle hopes to inspire others to explore the natural world around them.
“I hope that my video will inspire people to be creative and to also go outside and see what birds they’ll be able to find in their neighborhood,” she added.
