  • Juliana Fischer, 11, rescued a 5-year-old boy from a well.
  • Her quick thinking and teamwork led to a safe outcome.
  • Both families and first responders praised her bravery.

In Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, 11-year-old Juliana Fischer responded swiftly when she heard calls for help after a young boy fell into a well near her home.

On August 15, Jack Buss, age 5, dropped 20 feet into a water well when the cover broke beneath him and was stranded on a ledge below ground.

His mother, Kathleen Freeman, immediately called out for assistance, prompting Juliana to run over and dial 911.

Seeing a ladder nearby, Juliana quickly brought it over with the help of her father and Freeman, lowering it down to Jack so he could climb out safely.

Jack escaped with only minor scrapes and bruises and was taken to the hospital as a precaution before returning home in good spirits.

Freeman praised Juliana’s courage, saying, “She just went and grabbed the ladder herself, put it in the well, and we held it with her father.”

The well has since been secured by local authorities while a permanent repair is arranged, ensuring the safety of the neighborhood.

Despite receiving accolades for her actions, Juliana remained modest about her role in the rescue.

“I don’t know. Anyone would have done the same thing,” Juliana said.
