Cat’s Unique Look Inspires Smiles Online

Quick Smiles:

  • Smudge the cat charmed social media after losing his nose to cancer.
  • His resemblance to Voldemort sparked widespread affection and laughter online.
  • Smudge continues to thrive indoors, bringing joy to thousands of fans.

When Angel Nicholson found a raised scab on her cat Smudge’s nose in April 2022, she initially thought it was just the result of a scuffle.

After a vet visit and a biopsy, Smudge was diagnosed with nose cancer and underwent surgery to remove the affected tissue.

“From there, the vet proposed that we get him booked in for surgery which would, in simple terms, cut away his nose,” said Angel Nicholson. “Luckily, it wasn’t taken back as far as it could have been due to the cancer not spreading as much as the vet initially thought, so the procedure was just a cauterization.”

Smudge adapted to a new routine indoors with lots of gentle care and playful attention as he recovered from his operation.

Although wearing a cone was a challenge, and his sensitive nose required special care, Smudge bounced back and has become a happy, sun-loving senior cat.

Now 12, Smudge prefers lounging and sunbathing, and his unique nose sometimes runs, so Angel helps keep it clean and comfortable.

As a light-hearted nod to his new look, Angel shared before and after photos of Smudge on TikTok, where the internet quickly fell for his story and “little Voldemort” charm.

Their post attracted over 613,500 views and 126,600 likes, with fans sharing jokes and stories about their own beloved cats.

“It’s been nice to see comments from people sharing their own cats, others making hilarious jokes about his nose—many of which I have made myself, including comparing his nose to a little mushroom, or Voldemort himself.”

Angel encourages cat owners to protect fair-skinned pets from too much sun and to always get curious marks checked by a vet.

Smudge’s resilience and joyful spirit have brought smiles to countless animal lovers, proving every pet is perfect in their own way.
