A delightful video capturing a golden retriever’s anticipation for his owner’s return has been melting hearts across the internet.

Romeo, a nearly one-year-old golden retriever, has become quite the sensation for his predictable routine. Like many dogs, he quickly adapted to his owners’ schedules. Both owners, Jenn and Ryan, work as doctors, with Ryan typically on the day shift and Jenn working nights.

At just six months old, Romeo began to anticipate their return home.

Jenn shared, “When he first started doing it, I was confused because he always follows me around the house and stays near me.”

However, she noticed that around 5 p.m., Romeo would suddenly leave her side, which was unusual. In a TikTok video shared on September 18 from Romeo’s account, @romeosrufflife, Jenn documented this endearing routine.

Romeo starts by looking expectantly at the front door for Ryan. When the door remains closed, he lowers his head and retreats to the couch, only to jump up eagerly at any noise.

This cycle continues until Ryan finally arrives home, prompting Romeo into a joyous frenzy.

Jenn captured the moment, noting that she “cried at the end” after witnessing his reaction. Romeo’s excitement is often expressed by running around and gathering as many toys as he can carry to present to his owners.

According to Vet Explains Pets, dogs often pick up toys to express excitement, self-soothe, or share their happiness.

Jenn mentioned that Romeo’s loving welcome isn’t reserved just for Ryan. “With our jobs as doctors, sometimes we have really tough or sad shifts at work, but there is nothing sweeter to come home to than Romeo excited to give us kisses and cuddles,” she said.
