Don’t Judge A Cat By Its “Tough” Exterior [Video]

  • An old tomcat with a scarred and scabby fur caught the attention of a volunteer cat coordinator.
  • She says that behind the exterior of these cats lies the sweetest souls.
  • Truly, Mason the cat turned out to be loving and gentle after he had his health issues attended to.

Sometimes the toughest exteriors hide the softest hearts. And this is true for a cat with a “tough guy” face, Mason.

You cannot blame the guy for his appearance. He has been living alone for so long without proper care. He had been beaten up and scarred from fighting to survive on the streets.

His profile on a shelter’s notice for adoption has caught the attention of Jen Boger. She is the volunteer cat intake coordinator of Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation in Northern Virginia and has a blog called Pokey Pot Pie.

Mason was described as “having a rough exterior, but being very loving and sweet.”

Jen said, “We expected him to show up with some matted fur, dirty ears, fleas, and generally be just a bit disheveled. But, in reality, he was the saddest, sickest cat I’d ever seen.”

Mason had deep scars that ran down the sides of his face and his ears were injured. He had scabby fur, ringworm, dental problems, and other health issues.

Jen says that these tough old tomcats are the ones who get passed over by potential adopters a lot of times. That is why she was determined to care for Mason.

And truly, Mason is feeling and healing after weeks of vet visits. “He has responded incredibly well to everything that’s come at him so far,” she said. Mason has also adapted to home life and what’s more, turned out to be a sweet, gentle, little old bear. He has also gained the confidence to approach humans and demand to be petted.

So please do not judge Mason for his appearance. He has a whole lot of love to give. Whoever gives him a forever home will have a best friend and companion for life.
