In the rolling fields of Kansas, Jesse Blasi embarked on a unique project to celebrate a milestone in his marriage. Inspired by another farmer’s sunflower tribute, Jesse decided to craft a message in a wheat field for his wife, Sarah. This grand gesture took eight months of planning and dedication, involving a mile of land and an astounding 65 million wheat seeds.

Jesse and Sarah’s journey began at Kansas State, where a chance meeting at a bar and a shared stoplight encounter laid the foundation for their enduring love. Over the years, they built a life together, raising two daughters, Reagan and Avery, and running a thriving farm. To commemorate their 20th anniversary, Jesse wanted to create something truly memorable.

Using a John Deere Air Seeder and two distinct varieties of wheat, he meticulously outlined the words “Jesse + Sarah, 20 Years.” Jesse nurtured the wheat, watching it grow into a spectacular display.

“I knew it would make her smile,” Jesse shared. “That was kind-of the whole goal, to get the little grin out of her that I like.”

Keeping the surprise under wraps was no small feat, especially with curious eyes from neighboring farmers. Yet, Jesse remained determined to unveil his ‘golden wheat anniversary’ gift in a breathtaking fashion.

In early June, Jesse and Sarah took to the skies in an airplane, where Sarah first glimpsed the loving message. The words, crafted in red chaff wheat against a lighter background, stretched a mile long and half a mile wide.

The message is set to grace the Kansas landscape throughout the summer, with the potential to last until October. Although the seasons will eventually erase the words, the memory of this grand gesture will endure.

“It’s all the little things that make you happy,” Jesse emphasized, capturing the essence of their shared life.

While not everyone can carve a message into a wheat field, sharing this story might inspire others to celebrate their loved ones in meaningful ways.
