‘Healing Cat’ Loves Comforting All the Patients at the Animal Hospital
- The six cats at an animal hospital have since become part of their staff, with most of them serving as therapy animals.
- Bea, a tailless tabby, works like a head nurse who makes her rounds and comforts the animal patients.
- The human staff love all the cats, who all have their role to play at the hospital.
A band of cats at an animal hospital in California has inadvertently become therapy cats for the patients, as well as the human staffers working there.
Bea, in particular, has become a sort of head nurse who makes her rounds petting each animal and trying to make them feel better.
The tailless tabby even seems to have a “healing touch.”
Crystal Bessmer, a vet tech at the Look Ahead Vet in Oroville, told The Dodo, “She’s always so curious and so gentle. She loves to walk up to them and often just puts her hand in slowly to check them out. Oftentimes she’ll even pet them.”
Bea makes sure to check on anyone. She doesn’t seem to be afraid of even the really big farm animals.
“She definitely loves everyone, especially the new kitten, Peggy,” Crystal shared.
Here’s Bea making her rounds:
The six cats at the hospital were all found as stray kittens and brought to the hospital at various times. Most of them had severe injuries.
All six have since become a big family that loves spending time with each other. They have free rein to roam around the big hospital, and each of the six cats has their own special job.
Bea, Elfie, Peggy, and Uno are the girls while OJ and Theo are the boys.
Crystal listed their roles: “Theo’s definitely the comforter … he can sense when someone is really sad, and he’ll go and sit on their lap. We call Elfie the head of security because she’s a little spicy and likes to run towards the chaos. OJ is our doorman. He loves to hang out by the door and greet everyone. Uno is our babysitter. She loves to watch puppies and kittens especially and keep an eye on them. Lastly, our new edition, Peggy. She’s still pretty young, so we call her the ‘hospital Cat in training’ or ‘intern.’”
The human staffers make sure to care for the cats as well and give them lots of love and snuggles.
“Our clients absolutely adore them,” Crystal shared. “They’ve been very therapeutic for our clients and for us.
