In Virginia’s heart, a family orchestrated a touching surprise reunion for a son and his mother who had been apart for two decades. This intensely emotional moment was even captured on video.

Juan hadn’t seen his beloved mother since he had left Peru twenty years earlier. In an ingeniously emotional turn of events, his children and relatives masterminded the ultimate surprise, cleverly woven into his son, Aiden’s birthday celebration.

Mia Bernal, who is only ten years old, was instrumental in this brilliantly planned surprise for her father during her brother’s birthday party.

In a secretive operation resembling a spy movie plot, Josefina Mamita, Juan’s mother, was swiftly brought from Lima, the capital city of Peru, and flown to the U.S. Josefina, a proud mother of four including Mia’s dad, Juan, arrived under the cover of darkness.

Mia wrote in a note, “It’s been almost 20 years since he last saw her. We picked her up at the airport at 4:00 in the morning while my dad was sleeping, so he didn’t notice anything.”

The stage was prepared for a family gathering at Aunt Nelly’s house later that night, where the grandmother in her seventies would make her grand, surprise appearance during the festivities.

Developing the story further, Mia recounted, “I had the idea for Aiden to blow out the candles and wish that our grandma was here. Right after that, she’ll show up and surprise our dad.”

Josefina’s visit was not just a joyful reunion, but it also held the potential of some tantalizing Peruvian dishes that her son had been longing for.

As planned, Aiden made a birthday wish that his grandmother, Mamita Josefina, was there with them. As he finished making his wish, she appeared and embraced her son in a long, loving hug.

In hindsight, Mia’s statement was simply, “one of the best surprises in his life”.

This journey marked Josefina’s first-ever visit to America. It was beautifully timed, as she reached just in time to witness the Independence Day fireworks alongside her family.
