After a game against the Dollar Bay Blue Bolts, Matt noticed one of its players wearing the inappropriate playing shoes for basketball.

Matt well knows how rough the game can be, and it is important to have the right footwear for better performance, comfort, and safety. So, when he saw this player’s shoes, he immediately knew what to do.

Wearing his red LeBron James Nike basketball shoes, he took them off, and handed them over to one of the JV teams who then passed them to the team they played against that night. Although he wasn’t able to personally give the shoes to that player needing the shoes, he made sure that they reach him as soon as possible.

The word got around quickly, and Matt’s kindness became the talk of the town! His coach Terry Fetter heard about it from his wife, and though he wasn’t surprised to learn Matt’s kindness as it comes so naturally for him, he was surely proud of him!

“Usually, I know everything and for me not to know that, I must have been in the locker room or something,” said Coach Terry. “I just couldn’t believe he had done that, but it doesn’t surprise me because he is a good young man.”

Don Hill, a local resident who was at the game that night, didn’t want to keep to himself what he witnessed, so he shared Matt’s good deed on Facebook.

“Shout-out to Matthew Montie from the Wakefield-Marenisco Cardinals basketball team. When leaving the gym tonight, he donated his shoes to one of our JV players that didn’t have a decent pair. Classy kid, classy program. Gained my respect for sure tonight,” the post reads.

The whole community was moved by what Matt did, but for him, he just simply wanted to help, away from the limelight.

“I wore those shoes for a couple of years,” Matt added. “They were nice shoes. I hope he really likes them,” Matt said.

Matt was truly the real MVP!
