Homeless artist gets help from internet and an art gallery agrees to feature his work
- Richard Hutchins was a successful artist years ago, who suffered consequent misfortunes until his last straw.
- But his life changed when Charlie Rocket, a philanthropist, spotted him, learned his story, and shared about his life with his millions of social media followers.
- That was the start of the fortunate events in the artist’s life, and now he’s paying it forward!
This is Richard Hutchins. He was once a successful artist who worked with several big names in entertainment, but he suffered one misfortune after another, and his burned art studio was the worst by far. That was when he reached his final straw, and since then, he has started wandering off the streets of Los Angeles.
Richard has been homeless for more than a year now.
Despite all that has happened, Richard has never lost hope. He believes that one day, his career would recover and he will be able to leave a lasting impact to people, especially to artists like himself.
And he reaped the fruits of his trust.
Last Easter Sunday, a man spotted Richard outside Ralph’s supermarket in LA, and little did he know that it would be the turning point of his life.
Of all the people who’d take notice of Richard, it was Charlie Rocket, a former Grammy-winning talent manager-turned-Nike model.
Charlie, 29, survived a brain tumor which inspired him to start a nonprofit to help others.
“I want to dedicate my life to making other people’s dreams come true, and I got the bus and I started going across America,” he said.
Charlie took a moment to stop and talk with Richard. He learned that his dream “is to walk into a museum someday and see one of [his] paintings hanging on the wall.”
Charlie thought the artist’s story was too beautiful not to share. So, he posted about Richard on social media, and millions of his followers were moved. Within minutes, donations started pouring in.
In just a matter of three hours, Charlie’s fans donated $40,000 to help Richard get back on his feet!
Charlie’s foundation also put up Richard’s artwork on his very own website, and the proceeds were unbelievably going higher each day!
Earnings have reached $50,000, which prompted Charlie that it was the right time to surprise his new friend. His work was featured in a Los Angeles art gallery, where one of his paintings was auctioned off for $23,000.
In just a matter of days, Richard’s earnings reached six figures, and he wanted to “pay it forward,” especially to artists who have fallen on tough times.
“This night is not for me, but for every homeless or every artist on the streets out there,” Richard told the crowd.
How things have turned his life around is fantastic, but what’s even more amazing is how Richard chose not to spoil himself after those years of hardship, but to celebrate his good fortune with others who are in need.
@charlie Richard is proof that everything is possible regardless of your current situation. Miracles do exist ????❤️ #fypp #homeless #foryou #kind ♬ To Build a Home – Slowed – SelteMemset
