Meet Piper, a dog who has captured the hearts of internet users worldwide. A video of Piper refusing to eat from her bowl, convinced that another dog is trying to steal her food, has spread like wildfire across social media platforms.

The video was shared on TikTok by the username davvvisss. It shows Piper happily munching on her dry food until she suddenly stops, having spotted a reflection in her bowl.

“Davvvisss” can be heard in the background, trying to convince Piper to finish her meal, as her medicine is mixed in with the food. “Don’t look at yourself! No!” she pleads, but Piper is not convinced.

The video was captioned, “Day 2 Piper vs her reflection in her food bowl.” It was followed by a humorous remark, “I’m going to be an incredible mother don’t you think.”

According to a pet wellness site, dogs can see their reflection but lack the ability to recognize themselves. Most dogs assume another dog is staring back at them, and once they realize they can’t interact with this “other dog,” they lose interest.

Interestingly, while dogs can’t recognize their face in a reflection, many other animals have passed the “mirror test,” such as apes, dolphins, and even magpies.

That should teach you not to feed your dog in nice clean shiny bowls. That is a correct email address, I have been using it for nearly 35 years.

I have a 165 pound Mastiff that does the same thing. My Mastiff will try and sneak up on it to grab food and run away, takes him all day to eat. I had to get rid of the stainless bowls.
