@toadre_ He comes and goes as he please
A black-and-white feline has taken the internet by storm, demonstrating an exceptional skill – opening doors single-handedly. This adorable video was shared on TikTok by the user @toadre_, and in just a week, it has gathered over 9.6 million views. The cat’s owner, Audrey, captioned the video, “He comes and goes as he pleases.”
Despite the child-lock-style blocker installed on the door, the cat, with impressive dexterity, manages to manipulate the door handle, granting himself access to the room.
The video sparked a flurry of comments, with viewers expressing their surprise and amusement. Some even initially mistook the cat’s actions for a potential break-in. “Maaannnn I thought someone was creeping into ur room,” posted one viewer. Another viewer humorously added, “I thought someone was trying to break in. Who knew I’d agree with the criminal lmaoooo [laughing my *** off].”
Several viewers speculated that someone might be assisting the cat. One viewer commented, “The way I was ready for someone to be carrying him like they used him to open the door.” However, Audrey clarified in a follow-up comment, “His cat tree is right outside my door so he uses that as leverage.”
Cats are known for their ability to learn and adapt through observation and experimentation, much like humans. They often mimic human actions to achieve their goals, teaching themselves to pull down on levers and open doors.
This isn’t the first time a cat has impressed the internet with its door-opening abilities. Taro the cat previously gained attention for his unique method of rolling over to open doors, and Kala the cat managed to open a door when her owner was locked out.
While there are various reasons for wanting to keep a cat out of a room, a closed door is often the go-to solution. However, this proves less effective when the cat has learned to open the door itself.
To discourage this behavior, experts suggest ignoring behaviors like scratching and yelling at the door. Some owners also use scent or touch deterrents, such as citrus, mint, and cinnamon scents, or sticky textures that cats dislike.
The most effective way to keep a cat content while keeping them out of certain spaces is to provide them with their own cat-friendly space. This should be a place where they can relax, play, and feel safe.
