Harry is a small puppy who has recently discovered that his true passion in life is to watch the world pass by.

Harry had always enjoyed spending time in his family’s fenced-in backyard, but it didn’t provide much of a view of what was beyond. It was nearly hard to see through the pickets on the fence since they were so closely spaced.

But something happened, and Harry saw for the first time what he’d been missing all this time. After a storm toppled the fence, a new one with a somewhat different design was built.

Harry’s owner, Alex Mcleish, told The Dodo:

“When my dad rebuilt the fence, there was some spaces [between the pickets]. That’s when I caught Harry looking out the gaps!”

By peering through the thin slits of the fence, he could keep an eye on what was going on the other side. Is there anything greater than that? There is, and it’s called a fence window.

Harry had fallen in love.

After catching Harry peering out the gaps, Mcleish joked to his father about the fence window. When he woke up one Sunday morning, he saw his dad making the fence window for Harry.

Mcleish’s father had carved a hole in the fence for Harry to gaze out at the world without obstruction.

Harry was ecstatic.

“Harry knew it was for him!” said Mcleish. “He watched my dad when he was making it like he was waiting for him to be finished.”

And the wait was unquestionably worthwhile.

Harry has been practically glued to that area since the window was installed, watching people and other dogs stroll by the house with joy and a frantically waving tail.

Mcleish said Harry sits there for hours and will only leave the place when called.

Of course, if the fence had been left alone, Harry would not have complained. But Mcleish’s father was able to make the pup’s favorite new hobby even more delightful by making that cute tweak.

In a manner, the dog’s family also gained a new view — one of a particularly content Harry enjoying life in their garden.

“It definitely makes us smile seeing him watching the world go by,” said Mcleish.
