This fight against COVID-19 is a global effort that had people looking for more and more ways to help one another, even with simple things like grocery runs for older people in self-isolation or sharing toilet papers with those in need.

This is another story that inspires us to help each other.

Taran and Calliope Tien, 9 and 6 years old, from Columbus, Ohio arranged a small concert on the porch of Helena Schlam, 78, who is self-isolating inside her house. This is on top of making sure that their neighbor was stocked up on groceries.

Both the Tien kids put on their nicest concert clothes before hauling their cellos over to the porch of their neighbor where they played everything from children’s tunes to Bach suites for half an hour. The kids made sure to maintain a safe distance from Schlam’s front-row seat 10 feet away.

“I haven’t been out of my house for five days, and I won’t be out anytime soon,” Schlam said. “This was a delightful break for all of us. I love all the kids and I love music. It was such a real gift.”

Rebecca Tien said that these trying times brought out something within her kids and she could not be more proud of them.

“It was one of those moments where you feel like you’re a part of something incredible,” she said. “It was also a good way to remember the value of connection, especially at a time like this when everyone feels disconnected. Just to know we were a part of something so sweet, even just for a minute, meant a lot.”

Jackie Borchardt witnessed the touching moment shared on the porch of her neighbor as she was walking down the street where Schlam lives and was able to share a video of this porch concert on her Twitter page. The now-viral video has been shared several times over, applauded by thousands of people on the internet.

“This is what American values are all about!” one Twitter user said. “We help one another in crisis!”
