Breezy Johnson is enjoying a memorable Olympic run and an extra-special Valentine’s Day thanks to a heartfelt proposal.
Fresh off winning Team USA’s first gold medal at the Winter Games for her downhill skiing performance, Johnson received a surprise at the base of the super-G course.
Her boyfriend, Connor Watkins, wearing a Team USA jacket, got down on one knee in front of an international crowd of athletes and officials.
Johnson happily accepted, and the couple shared a kiss as teammates cheered them on.
“When you make mistakes like that in ski racing you kind of feel stupid and you just kind of want to go talk to your friends and family.”
“And, yeah, seeing him was really exciting.”
“And then just everything else is crazy,”
Johnson said on TODAY after the engagement.
Watkins admitted he was nervous about both her well-being after a crash and the proposal itself.
“It’s an incredibly surreal experience,” he shared.
“I’d been really nervous.”
“Every time she goes down the hill, I’m nervous, right?”
“She got up after the crash. It was good, and that was a sigh of relief.”
“And then my heart started racing again, because I knew I was about to go and get down on my own knee and propose.”
He mentioned having backup plans in case things went differently after her crash.
“The mountains don’t always cooperate with what you’re planning,” Watkins said.
“So, this was plan A. There was a plan B.”
“Luckily, she got up and was fine, and we can stick with Plan A.”
The engagement ring was a blue stone set on a silver band, complete with a box that read
“Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?” — a nod to Taylor Swift.
Johnson keeps her personal life mostly private but is open about her identity.
She shared in 2022 that she is bisexual and said on Instagram:
“To those 🏳️🌈 people out there who feel a little different and want to see people like them at the top I am here to represent that we are out there, we are normal, and we can do whatever we want,”
Alongside her engagement excitement, Johnson reflected on her whirlwind Olympics experience, telling TODAY:
“It definitely has not sunk in yet, but it’s been a crazy whirlwind,”
after her gold medal win.
