  • A cat and her litter kittens were found scavenging for food behind a warehouse.
  • According to the Dorset Rescue Kittens in Ontario, the cat family seemed to have been eating leaves and grass while living in the streets.
  • One of the kittens couldn’t be separated from her mom.

Coco the cat and her kittens were discovered looking for food behind a warehouse. The person who found them quickly contacted the founder of Dorset Rescue Kittens in Ontario, Cailey Seymour, who was delighted to take them in.

The person who discovered the cats left piles of food out to attract all of the cats. Kittens began to emerge from every direction, eager to devour the food.

“It was apparent that they had been eating leaves and grass since there wasn’t food readily available to them,” said Cailey.

Most of the kittens needed to be treated for upper respiratory infections, but with time, they all recovered and gained weight.

Cailey and the rescue team were worried at first that the 5-year-old mother would be aggressive, especially because she appeared to have been living on the streets for a long time, but Coco’s sweet, loving demeanor rapidly dispelled that fear.

Cailey said it didn’t take long for Coco to understand the concept of a home. “At first, she would only lay on the ground, never on a bed or a couch. She loves attention but didn’t know how to seek it out,” she added.

Her kittens were first wary of the humans at Dorset Rescue Kittens, but with the help of their reassuring mother, they quickly warmed up.

According to Cailey, they noticed that one of the babies, Chanel, was tinier and quieter than the others.

Chanel continued to nurse despite her siblings’ readiness to wean, but Coco was not complaining. Since they were rescued, the mom and baby have formed a strong bond.

“She’s been a wonderfully attentive mom and dotes on Chanel,” Cailey said. “Chanel is often her mom’s mini shadow, but as she has grown, she has really opened up and has quite the personality.”

Chanel is becoming more adventurous, whereas Coco is more laid-back and content with napping in various comfortable positions.  The kitten enjoys venturing into unfamiliar areas in their foster home. She also enjoys teasing her sleeping mother and playing with toys.

Nonetheless, these two could not be more in love with one other, which is why anyone planning to adopt any of them should adopt them together.

“You can always find these two lovelies curled up next to each other,” said Cailey, “Or Chanel running about and mama Coco following right behind.”

Since being discovered behind a warehouse, Coco and her children have come a long way. They’re all still seeking their permanent homes, but with those adorable faces and bright personalities, they’ll find a home in no time!
