  • When Reuben Ray went to the grocery, he brought his dog along but left him in his car with the window cracked open.
  • The dog was gone when he went back to his car and was missing for two weeks until a woman said she had the dog.
  • Reuben Ray kept the faith that the Grand Rapids community would help him find O-G, and they did.

When a beloved pet goes missing, the time looking for the pet is filled with worry and anxiety.  There is so much going on inside the human’s head and heart.  And for the pet, it is a very scary and big world out there.

When Reuben Ray went grocery shopping, he was not expecting to lose his beloved dog companion, D-O-G or O-G for short.

He said he just left O-G in the car, left a window open and then he went inside the store.  When he went back to his car, O-G was gone. While he was fearful of what might happen to  O-G, looking back now, he was in a way comforted that he was in Grand Rapids.  He knew the community would help him find O-G.

The chihuahua has been his support through his health challenges.  He was just what his doctor recommended to help lower his blood pressure and to calm him down. O-G has made things a little easier for Reuben in his care facility.

Reuben said, “He’s always there.” He added, “Just cheers me up. Keeps me in a good mood because sometimes dialysis and kidney failure would get you down. And he saw me through all those years of being on dialysis.”

Reuben feels that he has another chance at life after he got a new kidney this year.

To lose O-G is something that would really make him miserable.

But his belief in his community never wavered and true enough, after more than two weeks, a Grand Rapids woman called to say she had the dog!

The woman said she found the dog under a car in an apartment complex.  She identified the dog from the news and her daughter brought O-G to the station.  And it was such a sweet reunion between the two.

Reuben said, “Hi there! I miss you” as soon as he saw O-G. And only has these to say: “Good things do happen, you know?” He added, “I can tell everybody that’s true. It happened with the kidney, it happened with the dog, I don’t know what else I could want.”

Good to see you two together again, O-G and Reuben!
