This Cat’s Favorite Hobby?Throwing House Items Into The Trash

  • Knocking everything off surfaces is Pieru the cat’s favorite thing to do and earns him the nickname “Getoffthetable”.
  • He likes the sound that the trash makes when he throws things in the bin.
  • Mom now checks on the trash can’s contents for missing items before emptying it.

Don’t be fooled. Underneath the incredibly sweet exterior lies a mischievous side.

This side was made known shortly after he arrived as a kitty.  Pieru might just have “everything must go” as a motto.  As his mom Kerstin Reif says, “He looks so self-confident, sometimes there’s even a smile on his face,” when he knocks things off surfaces.

He has always loved doing things that he is not supposed to do and knocking things off is his favorite.  This earned him the nickname, “Getoffthetable.”  Although it is pretty harmless, it was not until he discovered the trash can that things changed.

Reif said, “Unfortunately our trash can stands near the table and obviously makes funny noises when he puts something in. About one year ago I missed my pen and found it in the bin — but I was sure that I didn’t throw it there neither did it lay in a way it could have fallen by itself.”

That is when she realized that since Pieru loves knocking things off, he must have thrown the pen in the bin.  The mystery of all the lost, misplaced, and missing things has been solved— Pieru! No one has ever noticed that all the things that they have been looking for might have ended in the trash can courtesy of Pieru.

From then on, whenever she empties the can or when something goes missing, Reif always checks on the contents of the can. Take note of the “found” items: pens, salt shaker, scissors, and even the remote control!  Through all his loot’s discovery, Pieru seemed to look at them with pride.

Pieru relishes knocking things over knowing that the family is looking at him or notices what he’s doing.  For him, that’s where the fun is.  Being watched as he does his mischief.

Reif said, “He looks so self-confident sometimes there’s even a smile on his face, I’m sure. He looks at us, nudging something … when you say ‘Pieru noooo,’ he smiles and throws it over.”

And Pieru has no plans of stopping the mischief.
