Quick Smiles:

  • Woman discovers her biological father was a Facebook friend for three years.
  • Family reunion brings together generations through love for dance.
  • Emotional journey from a mysterious birth certificate to family dinners.

In a surprising twist of fate, Tamuna Museridze, a journalist from Eastern Europe, discovered her biological father in the most unexpected place—her Facebook friend list.

This revelation came after she learned she had been adopted at birth, a truth she stumbled upon while sorting through the belongings of the woman she believed to be her mother.

The journey began in 2016 when Tamuna found a birth certificate with her name but an incorrect date. This discovery set her on a path of questioning her origins, leading her to speculate about adoption or even child trafficking in her home country of Georgia.

Driven by curiosity and determination, Tamuna created a Facebook group named Vedzeb, meaning ‘I’m Searching’ in Georgian.

Her efforts bore fruit when someone from rural Georgia reached out, sharing a lead about a woman who had concealed a pregnancy and traveled to Tbilisi in September 1984, coinciding with Tamuna’s birth.

The message included a name, which was absent from social media. Tamuna cast her net wide, asking if anyone knew of this woman.

Remarkably, someone did, and they offered to take a DNA test if Tamuna agreed to remove the post for privacy reasons. The test confirmed they were cousins, bringing Tamuna closer to her roots.

“The first two months were shocking, I couldn’t believe these things were happening to me,” Tamuna shared.

“I couldn’t believe I had found them.”

Her biological father, Gurgen Khorava, was a man from a rural village in western Georgia who had been following her work as a journalist.

Unbeknownst to both, they had been Facebook friends for three years. “He didn’t even know my birth mother had been pregnant,” Tamuna explained. “It was a huge surprise for him.”

The father and daughter arranged to meet at Gurgen’s home. Their initial encounter was a silent yet profound moment, as they sat together, trying to bridge the gap between their newfound connection and the bond they felt instantly.

A shared passion for dance soon emerged, linking their lives in an unexpected way. Gurgen had been involved with the State Ballet of Georgia, and Tamuna’s daughters also practiced ballet.

Tamuna also reached out to her biological mother, though this meeting did not carry the same joy.

In a gesture of warmth, Gurgen organized a family reunion, inviting relatives up to second cousins to welcome Tamuna.

“It was strange, the moment he looked at me, he knew that I was his daughter,” Tamuna recalled. “I had so many mixed emotions.”

This incredible journey of discovery and connection reminds us of the powerful ties that can bring families together, even from a distance.
