Woman Who Found A Puppy On An Abandoned Couch Realized She’s Not Alone
- A family of Pit bulls was reported abandoned and Donna Lochmann of Stray Rescue of St. Louis immediately went to rescue them.
- The rescue was easy except when one pup screamed so loud that Lochmann wondered why no one checked on what was happening.
- The pups have now found their forever homes and shelter staff are hoping the momma dog also gets adopted soon.
Stray Rescue of St. Louis’ chief life-saving officer Donna Lochman has been on rescue missions for years. So when she got a call about a family of Pit bulls with a mom that was scared and protective of her pups and four puppies, she knew she had to approach the rescue strategically.
Lochmann said, “I thought, ‘Well, I’m just gonna try to get mom first because if she’s barking at me, I don’t know what her reaction is gonna be when I start picking up her puppies.’”
As the mom was hungry, she lured it to her car with a can of Vienna sausages. The plan worked and within minutes, the momma dog was secured in her car. Now it was time to tackle the puppies.
The first puppy did not run away when she got near it but once she was about to pick her up, she just started screaming her head off. Lochman could not believe nobody came to check on what was happening.
But she quieted when she got reunited with her mom in the car.
Puppies two and three, next. The pups had the advantage of being familiar with the place and they made Lochmann look for them in the tall weeds. They thought they could escape her but with years of experience behind her, she just lured them the way she did with their mom.
It just took a newly-opened can of puppy food which made them come out of hiding and onto Lochmann’s arms.
By then, Lochmann had already named the momma dog, Donutfest and only one puppy left to rescue. This one was curled up on the couch but when Lochmann went to the pup, it leapt and started to run!
It had no chance to run far away as she gently picked him up.
With the family complete in her car, she brought them to the vet where they all passed the screenings. The puppies also almost quickly ended up in foster care. And after Stray Rescue of St. Louis posted their photos on Facebook, adoption requests came flooding in.
The shelter is hoping that the bubbly and loving momma dog Donutfest will also end up in her forever home soon.
