A bloodhound named Fred is being hailed a hero in Tennessee after helping the police track a missing girl. She has been found safe and sound, thanks to Fred.

Six-year-old Kinzleigh Reeder was allegedly kidnapped by her father Nicholas Reeder in late May, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office told WTVC.

Fred found Kinzleigh and Nicholas in an abandoned outbuilding with hardly any food or water, no ventilation or air conditioning, and using a bucket as a toilet.

Kinzleigh was removed from her father’s custody in March after they were found in a tent under a bridge in rising waters. She was reported missing on May 26.

Investigators ad several agencies worked together in the search for the young girl.

Deputy Richard Tidwell provided Fred an item belonging to Nicholas when officials discovered a home the two may be in.

Fred led the search team to an outbuilding on the father’s property. The door was barricaded and the windows were covered with metal.

“We made entry into the building and discovered the suspect and child in the back of the shed behind blankets that were hanging from a makeshift clothesline,” said Sgt. James Holloway with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.

Kinzleigh’s happiness seeing other people was very obvious. But seeing a dog made her even happier. She gave Fred a big hug for helping to find her.

Nicholas was arrested, charged with child abuse and neglect, and booked in the DeKalb County jail. Kinzleigh was placed into the temporary custody of a family member.

Fred was rewarded with chicken and pizza crusts.

Good job, Fred. God boy!
