Hippo-looking pup charms people with her unique ‘woo’ sound [Video]

Meet Maisy the Barn Hippo, who is never a hippo by any means.

Truthfully, Maisy is a rescued pit bull who loves woo-ing. It’s her signature sound — a very cute, low “woof” but without the “f.” She’s quite unique like that.

“She woos when she’s extremely happy, she woos when she’s ignored, she woos when she’s annoyed at me,” her mom Marisa Elgbert shared.

It was actually her woo that led Maisy to her mom. A friend tagged Marisa in a comment on a video of the foster dog, showcasing her signature “woo” sound. And that, right then and there, caught Marisa’s heart. Instantly, she knew she had to get Maisy in her life.

You might wonder how she got the hippo name. Well, Marisa noticed that the pooch looked like a hippo while she was scampering up and down the barn aisles. That, and the fact that the nickname stuck, were the reasons why Maisy is now the “Barn Hippo.” She also helps her mom in fulfilling barn duties, such as taking care of horses.

Marisa even created an Instagram account (@maisythebarnhippo) under her name, where Maisy and her adopted dog brother, Andy, have over 118K followers.

Maisy has easily captured the hearts of people from around the globe, thanks to her special way of talking — her “woo.” In fact, her mom told Daily Paws that “Her motto is ‘woo is life.’”

Maisy also has a good sense of humor and a sweet personality that can make people adore her even more.

“There’s definitely something about her that’s magnetic to everybody,” the fur mom said.

Ever since Marisa adopted Maisy and knew that she had a lonely past where she was frequently kenneled, the doggo mom has made it her goal to give Maisy the life she deserves: one that’s filled with adventures and lots of fun.

True enough, the stocky pooch has quickly adapted to barn life and made tons of friends, especially with the horses.

She delights in playing with them and licking their noses!
