Long-Lost Dog Siblings Hug after Recognizing Each Other Outside
- Two long-lost dog siblings were able to recognize each other as they were both outside for a walk.
- The two cockapoos, Monty and Rosie, have always been together when they were puppies.
- When they saw each other again, they immediately went in for a heartwarming hug.
An extraordinary moment between two long-lost dog siblings has touched the hearts of thousands.
The two cockapoos, Monty and Rosie, were both out on a walk when they instantly recognized each other. They haven’t seen each other since they were puppies, so they instantly went in for a hug!
Rosie’s mom, Susan Killip, said that the two were among six puppies born in June.
Monty and Rosie were particularly inseparable. Susan’s friends, who live nearby, had adopted Monty and also watched Rosie for a short while.
After that, however, the siblings lost touch — until their fateful meeting in May last year.
“It was so lovely, they both just jumped up and hugged each other. It was amazing they remembered each other after 10 months of not seeing each other,” Susan shared.
Libby Pincher shared the adorable moment on Twitter.
She shared a screenshot of her conversation with her dad, who said, “So, Dave was out walking his dog, and there was a couple walking towards him with a white version of his dog. Turns out they are brother and sister from the same litter. But instead of just playing like they do with other dogs, look at this.” The picture showed the siblings sharing a heartwarming hug:
It’s not entirely confirmed if dogs can remember their siblings, but many believe that Monty and Rosie indeed recognized each other.
It may be because they sense something familiar or comforting with each other, or, as Tufts University explained, it could be because “dogs of the same breed often gravitate toward each other.”
Tufts University continued, “The scent of another dog stays with a dog for a long time … But whether the dog is processing that it’s a familial connection, we’ll probably never know for sure.”
Whatever the reason may be for their touching hug, Monty and Rosie now know that they have someone dear to them living nearby.
Their parents have already planned to get in touch as soon as it’s safe enough to meet.
Susan shared, “We will keep in touch. [It’s] a bit difficult at the moment, but after this is all over, we’ll be having doggy walkies together.”
