Dog Brother’s Visit Sparks Remarkable Recovery

Quick Smiles:

• Gratitude for second chances.
• Friendship can spark recovery.
• Small reunions create big relief.

Rio, an eight-year-old golden retriever, collapsed on July 6 and was revived after an emergency CPR effort and treatment at Toronto Animal Health Partners.

He spent six days in the ICU followed by two days of aftercare before a visit from his rescue brother Pablo, whose reunion was captured on video.

By about day 10 he began peeing on his own, and by day 25 he could stand and move while his heart swelling remained under control; the family paid roughly $25,000 out of pocket to give him that chance.

“He got seizures and his body got stiff,”

“I tried to calm him down, but what I saw next was unexpected. His eyes went up, and he stopped breathing.”

“That moment was pure emotion and happy at the same time,”

“My god, this is so heartwarming and happy and sad at the same time,”

“Stay strong brother!”
