Neighbors watched as flashlights swept the tree line late into the evening.

Volunteers and officers had already spent hours calling the child’s name.

“I got him!” the handler shouted, voice echoing through the trees.

The German shepherd had picked up the boy’s trail just past midnight.

Within moments, the youngster was in his mother’s arms, unharmed.

Officers praised the dog’s training and calm focus that turned the search around.

“We never lose hope when our K9 partner is on the job,” one deputy said.
