Quick Smiles:

  • LAFD heroes swiftly freed a group of film legends from an elevator at the Academy Museum
  • Wes Anderson stayed calm and curious, turning a tense moment into a lighthearted conversation
  • Viewers online are already imagining the light-hearted movie this real-life mishap could inspire

Even a brief elevator ride can become an unexpected adventure when the doors refuse to open.

Academy Award-winning director Wes Anderson and actor Luke Wilson experienced exactly that on July 6 at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.

Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded quickly, opening the doors and guiding the passengers to safety in under an hour.

“No doubt the character asking if they know what was wrong with it would be played by Owen Wilson,” one viewer joked.

“Guarantee you this gave Wes an idea for his next project,” another person wrote.

“That might be in a movie,” a follower added.

“That handsome fireman just got discovered by top industry powerhouses. Bet we’ll be seeing him in the movies soon,” they wrote.

The gathering itself was a celebration: the 30th anniversary screening of Wes Anderson’s beloved debut feature, Bottle Rocket, which also starred Luke Wilson and his brother Owen.

LAFD later confirmed the elevator had simply been overloaded, and the brief delay became a story the group can now share with smiles.
