  • A firework that went off sent the border collie Rosie running at a park.
  • The scared dog managed to enter the doors of the police station across the park and sat in its waiting room.
  • Her parents were informed that she turned herself in at the police station paving the way for their reunion.

While out on a walk with her sibling and her dad Steve, Rosie, a border collie, ran away when a firework went off.

Her mom Julie said that Rosie loves to do “collie things” and “exercise” but hates fireworks and loud bangs.  She added that Rosie “hates bonfire night” and will just “go and hide in the bath and shake.”

But even in her “fright”, she knew just where to go to ask for help — the police station!  She pushed through a hedge and walked right to the station just across the park.  From the Leicestershire police station’s surveillance footage, Rosie entered through the station’s glass doors and sat in its waiting room.

In the department’s Facebook page caption they wrote, “Our staff fetched some water for Rosie, and made fast friends with plenty of fuss.”  The caption continued, “Thankfully, she was wearing a collar, so a lead was available to contact Rosie’s owner, who was delighted she had been found safe and well.”

Julie said, “I was so pleased and so happy she was safe and so proud of her that she was clever enough to find her way to the police station.”

When the officer called and asked if they had a black and white collie, she said ‘Yes.’ And the officer then said, ‘She just walked up and handed herself into the station.’ “

What a clever move, Rosie! Good job!
