Boy Scouts build insulated shelters to keep stray cats warm
- Boy Scout Tyrell Cooper assembled his troop to help provide a way to keep the stray cats in their area warm during the winter.
- They created insulated shelters from easily accessible materials and dropped them off at Lifeline Animal Project.
- Tyrell’s thoughtful and ingenious project earned him the highest rank of Eagle Scout.
A Boy Scout was given the highest honor for his thoughtful and ingenious project. Tyrell Cooper, a member of Boy Scout troop 3310, enlisted the help of his fellow scouts to create insulated shelters for the stray cats in their area.
He had wanted to create the structures so that their community’s street cats would have a warm, safe place to stay in during the winter season.
He and his fellow scouts dropped the shelters off at Lifeline Animal Project, a Georgia-based animal care center that has been helping stray animals around Atlanta.
The nonprofit battles the root causes of animal homelessness while improving the quality of life for feral animals. It also serves as a shelter for animals in need and provides accessible pet care services to pet owners in need.
The insulated shelters, which Tyrell called Feline Abodes, are easy to build.
The structures give warmth and shelter to cats living on the streets or with their homeless owners.
Many stray cats tend to live in outdoor colonies outside people’s properties. Since these cats are too feral to be taken to a shelter or put up for adoption, the Lifeline Animal Project makes sure to give them everything they need to survive in the wild.
Tyrell’s thoughtful and ingenious community service project earned him the highest rank of Eagle Scout. Thanks to his simple but helpful idea, many cats in Atlanta will stay warm and safe while living in the wild during the cold months.
