Cat and Dog Duo Wins Hearts with Mealtime Bond

In the charming world of pets, a surprising duo is stealing hearts across the internet. A black Labrador from North Carolina has found an unusual mealtime companion in her feline sister. This delightful pair has captured the attention of social media users, leaving everyone gushing over their adorable bond.

In a TikTok video shared by 28-year-old Kacey, who hails from the Raleigh-Durham area, we see Marlee, the Labrador, enjoying her meal while her cat sibling, Peekaboo, watches over her.

“Our dog refused to eat out of her bowl and would only eat if the cat was sitting right next to her. The cat is now her emotional support animal,” reads the text in the video.

Kacey explains that Marlee’s newfound eating habit developed after a vacation where she was around other dogs. “During the vacation, Marlee would only eat her food when she was around the other dogs. When we got back home, Marlee was missing the ‘pack mentality’ and being around their cat Peekaboo helped her eat her food since they are now a bonded pair,” Kacey said.

Peekaboo joined the family in August 2021, and Marlee was adopted from Love Mutts Rescue in Raleigh. The pair quickly became inseparable, often seen lounging together at home.

“Peekaboo likes to relax on her back, fully stretched out, which is an indicator that she feels safe and confident in her surroundings; she will even let Marlee sniff her stomach in this position,” Kacey added.

The connection between Marlee and Peekaboo highlights a natural canine behavior. Dr. Harunur Rashid from Vet Advises notes that dogs, as descendants of wolves, thrive on companionship and social interaction.

“When we first adopted Marlee, we slowly introduced her to Peekaboo. We kept Peekaboo in a separate space, and they slowly got to know one another by their smells through the door. After a few days, they would play with each other’s paws from underneath the door,” Kacey said.
