Earlier this year, it can be remembered that the iconic singer, Cher, fought hard and won in the Pakistan’s High Court to free Kaavan from Murghazar Zoo, where he spent most of his life performing for money while living in poor conditions.

“THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST MOMENTS OF MY LIFE,” Cher tweeted after that favorable ruling in May.

The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) looked tirelessly for the perfect home they can transfer Kaavan into. Then they found the Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary, and everything just fell into place.

Cher’s Free The Wild organization, the IWMB, the FOUR PAWS, and other experts and vets, have been spending some time training the 4.35 tons elephant to enter and exit an air shipment crate without stress. It has been a little difficult but Kavaan was finally ready to leave.

It was a long and meticulous journey before Kavaan reached his new home in Siem Reap, Cambodia, on Monday, but it was all worth it!

After eight long years of living a lonely life, Kavaan has finally had an interaction with another elephant and he has also met his huge supporter — Cher!

In the next months, Kavaan is scheduled to meet three female elephants as he lives freely in the 25,000-acre sanctuary — 50,000 times larger than his previous zoo prison.

His suffering and loneliness have finally been put to an end. We wish Kavaan more wonderful years to come in his new home!
