Couple builds giant dinosaur out of take-out containers to entertain 3-year-old daughter

- Carly Catalano, her partner Sam, and their three-year-old daughter Florence moved from British Columbia to Australia, where they quarantined in a hotel for 14 days.
- To entertain Florence, the couple built a huge dinosaur made of takeout food containers.
- The family named the dinosaur Bagasaurus and plans to keep its head as souvenir when they leave the hotel.
An odd kind of dinosaur, named as “Bagasaurus,” was recently found in a hotel room in Perth, Australia. And it existed all because of a parents’ resourcefulness to keep their little kid entertained during their 14-day hotel-room quarantine.
Moving from British Columbia to Australia, Carly Catalano, her partner Sam ,and their three-year-old daughter Florence spent two weeks in tight quarters as part of safety protocols.
The quarantine left the couple with no choice but to have their creative juices working to manage Florence’s mood toward the isolation. Luckily, the two came up with an artistic plan to keep Florence engaged.
The idea? Make a massive dinosaur out of takeout bags, containers, disposable cutlery, an ironing board, and other miscellaneous materials. And the DIYed living relic came out perfect!
The Bagasaurus has some big claws and its carbon footprint is in fact eco-friendly. He’s measuring 1.5 meters or about 5 feet tall, and is actually an herbivore — if he’s really eating the home-grown sprouts Florence regularly offers him.
“We’ve been growing wheatgrass,” Carly explained in an interview with CBC Radio West. “So she’s been wanting to… feed the dinosaur wheatgrass—as well as eat most of it herself.”
Florence would even oftentimes play with the Bagasaurus, matching his physique with her paper-bag scaled dress, and the dinosaur seems to love her back.
The family has no plan of donating the fossil’s remains to a museum, or trash bin, but thinks of recycling the entire thing and keeping only the head as a remembrance of their prehistoric hotel adventure.
