Dog welcomes parents home with his fur covered in “blood”

  • A naturally active dog had his body covered with “blood,” all because of a hidden red dye in his bed.
  • The stain on Pogo’s body remained for around three months.
  • During his walks, passersby would tell his parents that their dog was “injured.”

Pogo, a dominantly white dog with tons of energy, is always surprising his family with the unexpected.

One night, when Gemma McAdam and her girlfriend came home, they noticed that Pogo had “blood” all over his body, causing them to panic.

They thought Pogo injured himself so they were going around the house to inspect anything sharp, while also checking his body.

Neither of us even realized he was super happy to see us and wagging his tail. He’s injured himself before and he isn’t very good at hiding pain, so we definitely should have realized something was up,” Gemma told The Dodo.

After realizing that Pogo was fine, they continued to investigate other possible reasons why Pogo turned red. To their surprise, in Pogo’s bed was a hidden red hair dye — and they both started to laugh.

“Pogo was so happy that he kept running in circles, and wasn’t at all guilty looking … until the bath came out!”

That night, Pogo had a deep bath in hopes to remove the dye out. Unfortunately, his fur remained stained, so his parents tried alternative solutions.

“I reached out to some spaniel groups I’m in, and some recommended the seawater might help, so Pogo got lots of beach visits that week,” Gemma said. “I think he thought he was being rewarded, instead of punished!”

The red dye seemed at home at Pogo’s hair, though. He stayed pretty red for around three months.

Gemma shared that they got lots of funny looks whenever they went out for walks. Some would even call their attention for their “injured” pup.

Another funny moment that Gemma recalled was when they were at the beach, and Pogo came out of the water and raised his “bloody” paws up.

Though the dye has faded now, that little misadventure of Pogo will always be a hilarious memory to remember for his parents.
