  • The internet sends praises to an Amazon delivery driver for her compassion after a security camera on the front porch caught her praying for a baby diagnosed with a congenital heart condition.
  • The family isolates themselves in their house, dependent on delivery services for their supplies.
  • They posted a sign outside their door to express their gratitude to all the delivery workers, putting up a picture of their son to show them who they are protecting with their sacrifice.

If there is one good thing about this coronavirus pandemic, it brings out the everyday heroes in our communities.

Delivery workers, grocery store employees, and the many people working when others could not — they keep the world moving. Their sacrifice makes it possible for this family in Nampa, Idaho to protect their baby.

Lucas Pearson was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition. His health condition puts him on the list of people more at risk of the coronavirus. For this reason, Raquel and Derek Pearson decided to isolate themselves inside their house until the outbreak situation dissipates.

“He needs special thickeners to be able to eat, otherwise he aspirates his milk, so we really depend on getting all of these supplies online so we don’t have to go out to the store and bring a virus home,” Raquel explained. “We just want to minimize exposure to coronavirus.”

The couple decided to put up a little something on their front door to express their gratitude to the many people who work, enabling them to confine themselves and protect their baby.

“We have an infant with medical needs and online deliveries are essential to his health,” the sign posted at their door, thanking delivery workers, reads. You are helping keep our son alive and well.”

Derek and Raquel reviewed their videos from their security cameras installed on their front door. The couple came across one video where one delivery driver had her head bowed for a good number of seconds.

“I noticed that she was standing there, and I didn’t really realize what she was doing until I saw her doing the sign of the cross. I was like ‘Oh my gosh, she was praying,’” Raquel said. “I kind of choked up a bit.”

The gesture was so moving, especially coming from a stranger. Derek and Raquel are not the only ones who think so. The video was posted online and people agree that it was touching. The delivery driver was identified after that. Her name is Monica Salinas and the couple wanted to thank her personally.

“It’s been really hard to get through this, so I’m really touched that a stranger would take time out of her day to wish our son well like that,” Raquel said.

This is another reminder that kindness could mean the world for others. There are days when these small gestures that say we are all going through this together are just the support we need. Thank you, Monica!
