Jump Rope Hero Saves Teen from Icy Pond Adventure

Quick Smiles:
- Jump-rope champion David Fisher uses his ropes to rescue a teen from an icy pond.
- Fisher’s quick thinking and jump rope skills turn him into a real-life hero.
- The Westfield mayor honors Fisher and his son Felix with a Lifesaving Citizen Award.
In a remarkable turn of events, David Fisher, known to many as “The Rope Warrior,” transformed his jump-roping prowess into a life-saving act.
Fisher, a celebrated figure in the jump-rope world since the 80s, became a real-life hero when he used his ropes to save a young man who had fallen through the ice on a frozen lake.
The incident unfolded near Fisher’s home in Westfield, Indiana.
His son, Felix, was preparing to drive to university when he overheard a heated exchange outside.
A woman and her teenage son were debating how to retrieve their dog, which had ventured onto the thin ice.
Felix quickly informed his father, but the situation escalated as the boy fell through the ice in his attempt to save the dog.
With urgency in the air, Felix dialed 911 while Fisher grabbed his Double Dutch jump ropes.
He dashed to the scene, leaving one rope with Felix and taking another onto the ice.
Although his initial throw fell short, the teenager managed to swim a few feet and grasp the rope’s end.
Fisher pulled him to safety, but the young man fell through the ice again while trying to stand too soon.
On his second attempt, the teen wisely stayed on his belly until he reached solid ground.
Reflecting on the rescue, Fisher remarked, “It’s kind of like Indiana Jones and the whip.”
He added, “You couldn’t ask for a better tool to get somebody out of an ice pond.”
Fisher’s jump ropes, typically used for high-speed performances, became a lifeline that day.
His career has seen him entertain millions, appear on over 100 national TV broadcasts, and even perform for two US presidents and Boris Yeltsin.
While “The Rope Warrior” is a fictional character battling aliens in children’s books, Fisher’s real-life heroism was acknowledged by the Westfield mayor.
Both Fisher and Felix received the Lifesaving Citizen Award, a testament to their quick thinking and bravery.
