A fuzzy black lump caught the attention of two neighbors in Compton, California. Upon closer inspection, they discovered a tiny dog hiding between two trash cans. The dog, scared and skittish, sprinted away when they approached. The neighbors left food out for the pup, hoping to lure him back. Although the dog returned for the food, he wouldn’t let them get close enough to catch him.

Little did they know, this seemingly stray dog had a loving family searching for him. Marley, as he was called, had accidentally escaped from his home a few weeks earlier. His family never gave up looking for him. “He was gone for literally two months,” said Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy dog rescue. “But his mom never gave up looking for him.”

Marley remained on the same street where he was first found, waiting for his family to find him. “For two months, this tiny guy would wait for days at a time on a corner and then disappear,” Hall wrote in a Facebook post. “He didn’t have a home to go back to, but he knew kind people would feed him.”

Hall received a call about Marley and went to the neighborhood to find him. She set a humane trap with treats, and Marley was soon safe in her care. She took him to Camino Pet Hospital for a checkup and posted his pictures on Facebook, planning to find him a forever home. However, the next day, she learned that Marley already had a family.

Marley’s family, still searching for their beloved pup, came across Hall’s post and recognized him instantly. They rushed to the pet hospital for a reunion. As soon as Marley’s mom walked through the door, his ears perked up. “You should have seen him when he first saw her walk in,” Hall said. “It was as if he was like, ‘Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh, it’s her.’”

After months of waiting, Marley finally leaped into his mom’s arms and showered her with kisses, marking the end of their long and emotional journey.
