The Menai Bridge, an engineering marvel designed by Thomas Telford, opened 200 years ago, transforming travel between Wales and London by reducing journey times by nine hours. This massive structure was the largest suspension bridge in the world at its debut, held aloft by sixteen mighty chains.

It features a 579-foot deck and stands tall enough for large ships to pass freely beneath. Construction began in 1819, using limestone towers and painstakingly assembled wrought iron chains, each measuring over half a kilometer and weighing 123 tons.
